How to Check a Washington Contractor Bond Filing

A contractor bond filing is part of the registration record. It is not a performance rating and is not reserved for one customer.

How to check

  1. Match the exact license

Bond records are resolved within one contractor license. Confirm the license and business before reading the filing.

  2. Review the filing identity

Check the bond firm, account, amount, received date, effective date, expiration value, cancellation and impairment fields.

  3. Respect an unknown result

When multiple materially different live bond identities cannot be resolved safely, CivaVero reports unknown rather than guessing.

  4. Check claims and current status

Use L&I’s official verification tool for lawsuits against the bond and the most current registration information.

How to read the fields

The Phase 1 bond resolver is conservative. “Current” means the available evidence selected one deterministic live filing identity. Some source expiration values read “Until Canceled,” which is preserved rather than invented as a date.

L&I explains that a contractor bond or assigned savings account is a registration requirement. The filed amount and rules can differ by contractor classification and date.

What the record cannot prove

A bond filing does not guarantee workmanship, payment, claim eligibility, claim priority, or that enough bond funds would be available. L&I’s consumer disclosure warns that a bond or deposit may not be sufficient for a claim and can cover multiple claims.
